Tips on knowing when it’s the right time to move forward with a remodel project.
The three main reasons for jumpstarting a remodeling project.
1. Noticeable deterioration. This could include a variety of obvious interior or exterior damages. These damages require a remodel since they will eventually turn into hazards, at the most, or big projects, at the least, if they are left alone.
2. A need for more space. This can be needed because of a growing family, frequent guest entertainment, a growing at-home business, and many other reasons. While a remodel for these reasons is not necessarily a requirement, it can greatly increase the functionality of your living space to better suit your needs.
3. A need for a change. Styles become outdated and preferences change; therefore, houses should change as well. Remodeling a room or section of a room in your house is exciting; a small change can transform the look of your home.
How do you know if “right now” is a good time to start a remodeling project?
1. Have you set finances aside that could be used to fund a remodel? This is the first question you must ask when deciding whether or not to begin a project. You may have the funds to begin the project, but make sure you have a plan for funds to complete the project as well. It is extremely disappointing to begin a project, only to realize that you can’t finish it simply because your project is more than your budget.
2. Do you frequently entertain the idea of remodeling a specific area of your house? If you’re constantly thinking about changing or adding on to your house, and you have been for a long time, you are probably ready for a remodel.
3. Have you carefully considered what exact changes you want? So, you know that you need a remodel, but do you want a modern look? A rustic look? Blue paint? Brown paint? Are there multiple ways to complete your repair? Which one is the best option? Make sure that you have taken adequate time to carefully plan your remodel so that you achieve the look that you want or the repair that you need, and don’t end up spending your hard-earned money on a quick decision.
4. Is it the right time of year in your area for the specific remodel that you want? Planning the time of year for your remodel is crucial for many projects, especially exterior. Many times, builders are unable to schedule your remodel if you have contacted them too late in the busy season. The “busy season”, of course, varies depending on your specific location.
If you are doin a DIY project and don’t plan for weather delays due to the season, you may run into issues that you didn’t plan for.
Overall, make sure that you have carefully considered the climate that you are in and the average time that your project should take before beginning.
